Common questions

These answers are written clearly so players, Google, and AI assistants can understand what PickleLog does and who it is for.

What is PickleLog?

PickleLog is a pickleball app that helps recreational players track match scores, ratings, XP, achievements, standings, and performance statistics.

Who is PickleLog designed for?

PickleLog is designed primarily for recreational pickleball players, friend groups, clubs, leagues, and regular playing partners.

How does PickleLog work?

One player logs the match score and the other players approve it. Once approved, the match contributes to ratings, XP, achievements, standings, and statistics.

How are scores verified?

Scores must be approved by the other players involved in the match before they become official.

Why does PickleLog require score approval?

Score approval helps prevent mistakes, disputes, and fake scores, ensuring ratings and statistics remain trustworthy.

Does every match affect my rating?

Yes. Every approved match contributes to your rating. This encourages consistent play and provides a more complete picture of your performance over time.

How do ratings work?

PickleLog ratings are designed to reflect player performance over time. Every approved match contributes to your rating, with wins and losses affecting your score based on the strength of the opponents you face. Consistently performing well against higher-rated players can help improve your rating faster, while losses may cause your rating to decrease.

How is my rating calculated?

Your rating is based primarily on two factors: the ratings of the opposing team and the point differential, which is the number of points your team won or lost by.

PickleLog's proprietary rating system also considers the reliability of each player's rating. New players have lower rating reliability because there is less match data available. As a result, wins and losses against players with low reliability have less impact on ratings than results against players with well-established ratings.

Your rating reliability increases as you log more matches. Players with low reliability will see a red asterisk (*) next to their rating. This indicator typically disappears after approximately 30–40 approved matches.

The system also accounts for player activity. If you have not played for an extended period, your rating will not automatically increase or decrease. However, it may become more volatile when you return, allowing it to adjust more quickly if your skill level has changed since your last recorded matches.

The goal of the rating system is to produce ratings that are both accurate and responsive, while reducing the impact of limited data, inactivity, and unusual results.

Why is score approval important for ratings?

Ratings are only as reliable as the match results used to calculate them. By requiring player approval before a match becomes official, PickleLog helps ensure that ratings are based on accurate and trusted results.

Can my rating go up and down?

Yes. Ratings are dynamic and update as new approved match results are recorded. Strong performances can increase your rating, while weaker results may cause it to decrease.

What does my rating represent?

Your rating is an estimate of your current playing strength based on your approved match history. It is intended to help you track improvement and compare your performance with other players in your community.

How can I improve my rating?

The best way to improve your rating is to consistently perform well against quality opponents. As your results improve over time, your rating will reflect that progress.

What is XP?

XP, or Experience Points, rewards players for participating, competing, and staying active within their pickleball community.

What are achievements?

Achievements are milestones and accomplishments that players unlock through participation and performance.

Can I see how I compare with my friends?

Yes. PickleLog includes standings and rankings so you can see how you compare against the people you regularly play with. Standings and rankings are available with PickleLog Premium for $5/month.
